Vasna Aguiar, is a Swiss-Mexican dancer, performer, and choreographer. She received her classical dance training at the Hamburg Ballet School John Neumeier and at Codarts University in Rotterdam, where she received the Migros Kulturprozent Prize. As a dancer, she has danced with Tanz Luzerner Theater, the folkloric ensemble Het Internationaal Danstheater Amsterdam, Dance Company Osnabrück, the Thomas Noone Dance Company in Barcelona, and  the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Since 2016, she has worked as a freelance artist across both the independent scene and national theaters. Over the years, she has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Olivier Py, Ersan Mondtag, Rob Fordeyn, Jasmine Fan, Ruben Reniers, Georg Reischl, Mauro de Candia, Susanne Linke, Shang Chi Sun, Kinsun Chan, Heidi Vierthaler, John Neumeier, Yuchichi Hattoti

Her first choreographic short pieces were created at Theater Osnabrück Open Windows, where she later developed Encounters with the Dance Company Osnabrück under the direction of Mauro de Candia.

In 2016, she met Hamburg-based theater and radio drama director Henri Hüster, which led to her choreographing for his final project at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre.  The piece Ein weiteres Beispiel für die Durchlässigkeit gewisser Grenzen premiered at Kampnagel and was invited to the Körber Festival. This was the start of a shared exploration and the beginning of a search for theatrical forms between dance and drama.

Since 2018, she has also been working with Vienna-based Theater director Felix Hafner and his team.

Vasna’s choreography combines classical dance technique with contemporary movement. Often in dialogue with language and text, she focuses on the abstract embodiment of textual motifs through the body, creating choreography that explores and blurs the boundaries between dance and language.

Her choreography have been shown at Schauspielhaus Graz, Konzert Theater Bern, Schauspiel Wuppertal, Landestheater Linz, Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen, the Schäxpir Festival, New Art Basel, Landestheater Innsbruck, the University of the Arts Graz, and the several times at the Lichthof Theater Hamburg.

She frequently collaborates with Brazilian filmmaker and choreographer Gustavo Gomes, a former colleague from Theater Osnabrück. Artistic residencies have taken them to HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts, Quartier am Hafen in Cologne, Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, as well as to performances at Gallus Theater Frankfurt, TanzFaktur Cologne and the St. Gertrud Church in Cologne.

She is actively involved in inclusive performance projects, particularly in collaboration with Klabauter Theater Hamburg, and is currently working in a project in the Swiss Alps in collaboration with a refugee foundation.

Alongside her artistic practice, she is taking part in the four-year part-time Feldenkrais training Paris 14.
